They’re only about 30 minutes apart—but they offer completely different experiences.
Here’s the truth (and the way I guide clients): You’re not choosing “better”—you’re choosing the kind of trip you want.

Choose Da Nang if you want: beaches, modern hotels, convenience, and space
Choose Hoi An if you want: charm, culture, walkability, and atmosphere

Hoi An is one of the reasons why people fall in love with Vietnam.
It’s a preserved UNESCO-listed town filled with lanterns, narrow streets, and that rare feeling of “this place is different.”
Why do people stay in Hoi An?
Walkable Old Town (no planning required)
Incredible food scene
Unique atmosphere, especially at night
Easy access to beaches + countryside)
What You'll Miss:
Less atmospheric at night
Not very walkable for sightseeing
Feels more functional than special

What's the vibe in Danang?
Da Nang feels like a real city.
Think wide roads, beachfront resorts, cafes, and a much more local day-to-day vibe.
Why do people stay in Danang?
Long stretch of beach (especially My Khe Beach)
Better value luxury hotels
Easy airport access (10–15 minutes)
Great base for day trips (Ba Na Hills, Hai Van Pass)
What You'll Miss:
Less atmospheric at night
Not very walkable for sightseeing
Feels more functional than special
Should You Stay in Both? (My Recommendation)
If you have time, this is the move I recommend most:
3–5 nights total:
2–3 nights in Hoi An
1–2 nights in Da Nang
Why it works:
You get the culture + the comfort
You avoid burnout from either destination
You maximize variety without overpacking
